The break-up of the United States trade embargo against Cuba, country in the Caribbean, has contributed with it a wave of scopes for travelers as well as sports enthusiasts alike, among them the first offshore race between the nations in decades.

The first Pilar Regatta will start from Key West, Florida, to Veradero, Cuba, on 3rd Dec, 2015. The race committee, as well as the judges, is drawn up of representatives of the US SAILING and Cuban Sailing Federation. Registration for the regatta is ongoing, and it will end on 1st Oct, 2015.

Pilar Regatta race management’s Ken Johnson – who was working closely with PlainSailing.com, who organise Greek Island Yacht Charters – said that it has been more than forty years since the US flag has waved from the United States Embassy in Cuba. For sailors, this is a once in a lifetime scope to be the first to sail and see old Cuba and go to Marina Gaviota in Varadero, the first class facility of the Cuban ports.

The Pilar Regatta shows include a VIP welcoming party at the Conch Harbor Marina, Key West, Florida, and an awards event in the over-the-water Marina Gaviota restaurant as well as informational gatherings between the American racing community as well as Cuban Sailing Federation, arranged by the Pilar Regatta sponsors.

Johnson added that this was the start of new sailing relationship with their Cuban friends. And Varadero the city is white beaches – a vacation town for both sailors and Cubans – and a terrific place for sailors to first meet Cuba.
